Local Authorities - Property
Property Leader: John Robson
Property owned by Local Authorities is of course subject to the same laws and rules as generally applicable. Special problems arise, sometimes from the Local Government Act 1988 & Local Government and Housing Act 1989, such as deemed sharing of facilities, establishment of rights and so on.
At Arden Chambers we fully appreciate the need to understand the laws affecting property in order not only to fulfil social housing obligations but also to facilitate maximum use of property within the ambit of the law.
We have considerable property expertise – and have a reputation as leading advisors on property issues. We work closely with Local Authority legal and management teams on issues relating to:
- Property ownership
- Property management
- Property rights and Titles
- Planning rights and applications
- Access rights
- Restrictive covenants
- Lease Agreements and pre-lease Agreement disputes.
Within this sector we have a deep and broad amount of experience to draw upon to apply in resolving local authority issues. This expertise is at all levels and includes arbitrations and mediations as well as main court actions.

Seminars & Training
At Arden Chambers we develop seminars that focus only on developing an in-depth understanding of relevant Acts and surrounding elements of the law.
In addition we have developed highly educational content for regional training and seminars that focuses on the Act and its implications. This has proved hugely popular with both regional solicitors and Local Authority teams.
For more detailed information on the Seminars and Training courses we have run in the past and plan for the future, and for information on how to register your interest please visit our information centre.
