Martin is Emeritus Professor of Law, Bristol University and returned to part-time practice at Chambers in 2006, following the completion of his term of office as Law Commissioner.  He was made an honorary Queens Counsel in 2008.

He was retained by the Law Commission as a special consultant in order to further its major programme of work on the reform of housing law until 2008.

In addition, he has also acted as research adviser to Sir Robert Carnwath, Senior President of the new Tribunals Service.
