Arden Chambers nominated for the Bar Pro Bono Award 2009
October 20, 2009
Arden Chambers is delighted to have been nominated for the Bar Pro Bono Award 2009 by LawWorks, supported by the Islington Legal Advice Centre.
LawWorks made the nomination as a result of Chambers’ involvement in the LawWorks Clinics Training Project which provides pro bono training to lawyers who volunteer at free legal advice clinics. In making the nomination LawWorks commented: “LawWorks is extremely grateful for the support from Arden Chambers. It is truly a team effort and they have provided a tremendous service to the pro bono movement”.
The nomination was also supported by the Islington Legal Advice Centre as a result of the long-standing involvement Chambers has with the centre and, in particular, its drop-in Thursday night free clinic. On behalf of the Centre Michael Tomlinson wrote: “The advisors from Arden Chambers have been assiduous and regular in attendance and I cannot praise their efforts sufficiently. In the Landlord & Tenant field, quite frankly, I do not know what we would have done without them.”
Also cited in the nomination was representation by members of clients via the Bar Pro Bono Unit, including in the Court of Appeal and the Lands Tribunal, and pro bono representation in a variety of other cases, for example, a challenge by around 40 tenants to service charges and in a judicial review to a local authority allocation policy.
The winner of the Pro Bono Award 2009 will be decided by a panel, led by Lord Goldsmith QC, and announced on 7th November 2009.
