Summary

Rayan joined Chambers in 2017 and has a general housing, property and public law practice. She is keen to continue to develop her practice in all areas of Chambers’ work.

She also has experience in commercial litigation and accepts instructions from claimants and defendants in matters pertaining to contract disputes.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Rayan interned at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva and assisted in an amicus curiae brief in the UK Court of Appeal as well as drafting various policy papers. Rayan also worked at international law firm Steptoe & Johnson on two multi-million pound (ICSID) investment treaty arbitrations against the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Rayan has experience in matters relating to antisocial behaviour and has represented in committal proceedings.

Housing

Rayan accepts instructions from landlords and tenants (private and social sector) and represents in the full range of possession proceedings. Rayan has had experience in making and resisting applications for possession, set aside applications, warrant suspensions, unlawful eviction, anti-social behaviour, succession, disrepair and public law defences.

Real Property

Rayan acts for clients in all areas of property law. She has a particular interest in constructive/resulting trusts and claims pursuant to the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. Rayan is called upon to provide advice at the initial stages, draft pleadings and represent at trials.

Regulatory

Rayan represents in proceedings for breaches to the Housing Act 2004 where she has defended landlords in the Magistrates’ Court. Having undertaken a criminal pupillage, Rayan is well placed to deal with criminal proceedings arising from the contravention of the 2004 Act.
